  • Testing Testing... Is this thing on???

Well hello there! It seems like it has been such a tremendously long time since I have wrote a blog. A whole lot has been keeping me away from blogging or posting anything for that matter. It is... drumroll please.... I GOT A JOB!! Yes that's right. I have been working like mad at Disneyland. The happiest place on earth. I love working there and it has been a ton of fun. The only downside is I have not had much time for myself. I havent had much time to spend with the snakes or my photography. You may have noticed that the LK Imagery site is not up and running yet like I said, it's  because I have been so busy I haven't had time to work on it. It will be coming in time, I just haven't really been able to get to it.

On a side not the snakes are looking great, I am still waiting for my second clutch that should be on the ground very soon. I cannot wait til I see little eggies hatching!

On a second side note since LK Imagery website is not up and running I will still post photo related blogs here for those of you who may be interested. Well I LOVE Disneyland, and yes, on my days off i occasionally go and enjoy the park with my girlfriend. I decided to take my camera on this trip and I decided that I am going to try and take some photos of things people overlook or dont really notice cuz they don't have the time in their day at Disney to see every detail in the park.

Here are the first two which I shot today. This first one was taken at Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. It was taken off the Monorail line. The way I processed this photo reminds me of old and new. the dark sepia looking tons remind me of the past and the submarine voyage that was there and the bright yellows remind me of the new and how the parks constantly changing.
    Photobucket

This next one was shot on the front right of the Castle. This stone owl sits there and most people probably don't even notice it. I fell in love with this shot and how well it actually came out.

    Enjoy!

  • Take Action!!!!

Now before I get into the real seriousness of this post I want to take a minute to apologize for the lack of blog posts. School has had me crazy busy. I am out almost every day shooting photos for class then heading into the dark room to develop and print out the photos. I really want to get some good scans of them to put up on the blog and the website but I haven't had a chance to get it done. They are coming though. Don't you worry!!

In other news that is more snake related and kinda ties the post in with the real seriousness I have to address. Breeding has been going on. I keep seeing locks from my Mojo boy and my girls. He's the only one thats done anything this season with the girls. I gave up on my spider male even locking and am hoping I get lots of mojos!!

Well anyways, seriousness time for reals. It seems like over the last year the country has been coming down really hard on exotic pet owners. From Reptile owners to fish owners. Anything considered exotic is under attack yet again but this time it is more local and will have a HUGE effect on anyone who lives in LA County. If this were enacted it would do the following:

    1. Cages would not be allowed to be stacked.

    2. 24/7 staffing if have more than 50 animals in the facility. If less than 50 animals, you must have adequate staffing for at least 8 hours a day. If you have more than 50 fish, reptiles, birds, etc., or any combination thereof, you must staff the facility 24/7.

    3. Records must be kept on each "Animal". "Animals" defined in Section 10.08.020 any animal, bird, reptile or fish.

    4. Proprietary business information will be available to the public (that could mean Animal Rights groups).

    5. The Department may also impose “reasonable conditions” on a breeding license for any non dog or cat breeder.

Now you can understand the importance of doing something and standing up to this. If this were to be in effect in LA there is no telling how long it would take to get enacted everywhere else in United States. This would cause many small in home breeders to shut down or cut way back on their animals. Please take action and take a couple minutes to fill out a form on USARK's website.  http://usark.org/campaign.php?id=14

  • Frosty Heidi and Frank Listener Party!

This last week has been pretty hectic for me since about Friday morning which takes me right in to the first post of 2 that I have coming this week. Those of you who know me personally or have hung out with me may know that I am a HUGE fan of a local radio show here in the LA area called Frosty Heidi and Frank. This radio show has been on for quite some time and I have been a fan for just as long. They are an outrageously funny trio who have a show in the mornings from 9:00AM - 12:00PM. They sometimes do live shows throughout Southern California and I have never been able to attend one. Throughout their entire show history I have never been able to attend a live show because I always had work or school.  Well last Friday morning they did a live event at the Hooter's in Lake Forest and I was able to go with my friends Rich and Ramon who also happen to be fans of the show.

This was what I saw when I first arrived at Hooters. This was the booth set up to hand out swag and greet people as they went in.Photobucket

Rich, Ramon and I decided that It was not too early to have a few beers!
    Photobucket

Frosty, Heidi and Frank finally took their seats at the table and started the show and as you can tell they didn't skimp out on the drinks either, which they never do!
    Photobucket

During commercial breaks they walked out into the crowed and took pics and signed autographs. The first one I got to meet was Heidi. She is such a cool girl and if you have ever listened to the show one of her bess assets is her tongue. She loves to show it off any chance she gets!
    Photobucket
    Photobucket

I also got to meet Frosty who is the shows whipping post, They like to tease him a lot but he is also one funny guy!
    Photobucket

And last but not last I got to meet Frank. He is the badass on the show. He is the guy with the I don't give a fuck attitude. He's a stoner and a drinker and loves to have a great time.
    Photobucket
    Photobucket

All in all it was a great time. I can not wait to go to another live show. I had plenty of beer and hot wings to last me a while!

  • Storm Chasing - Revisit!

While going through and reading my old blog posts one of the photos from my storm chasing blog caught my eye. This photo needed a little bit retouching and thats exactly what I did! I love the way this photo looks, it is actually one of my favorites that I have shot in a long time! I would love to know what you all think, so please leave a comment!

  • Seal Beach Shoot!

I have been working my butt off trying to get some photo shoots under my belt since I have started this whole photography venture. All of my sessions since I have started have all been engagement sessions but one. Now I can change that and make it two. I made a friend over on a wonderful website called Model Mayhem, which is a website for model. photographer, make up artists and studios to connect and make business happen. I created one to meet some great people who were looking to build their portfolio. Within a week of joining I was contacted by a really cool girl named Stephanie. She mentioned to me that she has done some photo shoots in the past and is looking to do some more. We discussed ideas and finally settled on the Seal Beach Pier. It was a bit cold so she came prepared in some wintery clothes. It turned out very well and she was a blast to shoot with!

We decided to head under the pier at first, It was a bit chilly under there so we wanted to get them out of the way!

After we shot some under the pier we decided to head over to this cool rock jetty. Stephanie was a trooper when it came to climbing and rock jumping to get some good places to sit and shoot.

This next pic was taken on the pier next to the lifeguard station, I thought the graffiti added a nice touch in the photo, What do you think?
    Photobucket

After the pier we headed on down to this little sitting area, These are some of my favorite photos because Stephanie's eyes really pop!

    Photobucket

    Photobucket

Overall it was a great shoot and we had a blast doing it. Thanks again to Stephanie for contacting me to do this fun shoot and I can't wait to shoot with you again! I would love to hear from you all who read my blog, please click on the post name and scroll down and leave a comment, let me know what you think!

    Well friends... Until Next Time...

  • Storm Chaser!!!

If you read my blog and you are not from the Southern California area then you have not been experiencing this crazy weather that we have been having. We have been getting back to back storms with a TON of rainfall. Now those of you form other states that get a ton of rain are probably thinking who gives a shit if it rains, that happens here all the time. Well here in Southern California it rarely happens, and what makes it an even crazier storm here is that we had tornado warnings! At first the news was saying it may happen then they went on the air and said it was going to happen. So Jasmin and I sat at home watching the news and hoping nothing would whisk us away to Kansas. While watching the news the sky started to clear up a tad so we decided to head out but on our way out the door we heard that there was a tornado that had touched down about 10 minutes from our house. So I packed up the cameras and we headed out. First we headed down the street to check out how sever the flooding was. The water was really high, completely covering the curb actually.

    Photobucket
This truck just plowed through the water like he was all bad ass and stuff!
    Photobucket

After we went to check out the street flooding we headed down to Seal Beach Pier to see what was going on down there. It was rumored that the waves were going to be pretty big so we couldn't resist going down.

When we got down to the beach it was clear that were not alone in the idea to check out what was happening, There was a bunch of on lookers standing on the pier. It was closed for a while because the swells were so high but it was opened eventually
    Photobucket

The water carved a nice little canyon in the sand, it was pretty neat and rather tall
    Photobucket
    Photobucket

Now when we went the waves were pretty big but not as big as predicted as you can tell from the pics

    Photobucket
    Photobucket
    Photobucket

There was so much water that a little lake was formed in a parking lot and on some of the beach sand, it was pretty deep
    Photobucket

We eventually made our way down to the "ground zero" where the tornado hit and wow was it crazy to see some of the damage. There were a bunch of trees that were completely uprooted by the tornado.
    Photobucket
    Photobucket

Well this tornado was so strong that it completely picked up a SUV and flipped it on its side, I didn't believe it either but when I got to the scene I talked to some people who were there when it happened and they all had the same story. It was pretty intense
    Photobucket
    Photobucket

Since California doesn't ever get weather like this there were tons of on lookers and news people watching the events!
    Photobucket

    Photobucket

This last guy I couldn't help but take a photo of while he was filming us!

Well this is only one of many storms that are coming through Southern California this week. I will try to get out and take some more photos of everything that happens! If you are reading this and live in Souther California please be safe this week while commuting to work or while your just out running errands, if you can stay home, please do.

    Until Next Time...

  • My New Used Camera!

My photography class required us to shoot with film cameras only because were learning dark room techniques and what not, Eventually the classes switch to digital cameras but for the "beginner" classes they shoot film. Since I didn't own a film camera at all I had to go out and buy one. I wasn't sure what I was looking for and what I wanted to buy, but after some research I went and picked up a Nikon N75. This camera works with all my current lenses and vice versa. It is great that I can now juggle 3 lenses on 2 different cameras. I did manage to snap a couple pics of the new camera, so check it out!

I finally have had a chance to go through some of the photos of the parade and I have enough to show you all and give ya a bit of a blog about it. We had a great time camping out and meeting people around us. The parade itself was not as big as it normally is due to the economy but it was still great!

  • Things are happeneing!!

The new year has been pretty good for us here at Kesslers Kreatures-LK Imagery. As many of you know Jasmin(My Girlfriend) and I have been unemployed for a while trying our hardest to find work. It has been a really tough time the past year trying to manage and build personal business and pay bills. That is all about to change for one of us at least, Jasmin has a job now. She is doing something that she wants to do when she graduates school. She works at a nursing home, caring for and watching over the elderly. She just started on Wednesday and is loving it so far. She is actually going to school to become a nurse, this just puts her one step closer! She really couldn't be happier about it, and I am pretty happy about it too. I have to admit, the first day of her working a 12 hour day drove me a bit crazy. I didn't have much to do but sit home and wait. Oh well though, It gives me a chance to tend to the animals more and work on photography stuff.

Speaking of photography stuff, I registered for school and start this coming Monday. My first class will be an introduction to Black and White photography. I was a little weary about this at first because I am not a big fan of black and white photos. I know that just because I don't like them doesn't mean a client won't like them and want some shots in black and white. I learned this the hard way this past weekend when I did a shoot and the client wanted some black and whites. I was not particularly happy with the shots that I had taken in black and white but i turned them over to the client anyways. I hope this class will better help me appreciate the art of black and white photography and give me some better techniques to apply it to my own photography. We will see how it goes, maybe the blog will have a black and white picture mixed in from time to time.

This weekend is also a pretty big deal, it is the Reptile Super Show in Pasadena. We are going to be there as always! Some friends of ours are driving in from out of town to hang out and go to the show, They don't get to head out this way much so were pretty excited to see them. As always I will have my camera in tow and hopefully get some good photos for the blog. I know I say I'll post after the show and what not but I never do so this time I am not even going to say I will. It just gets too hard while trying to hang out and mingle! We shall be back on Monday or Tuesday with a full recap of the show!

P.S... I have promised the Rose Parade photos but haven't had a free moment to sort through them. They are coming... I promise! :)

    Until Next Time...

  • We Wish You A Late Christmas!!!

I have not turned on my computer much since the Monday before Christmas, Shocking I know! I have not had the time. We have been so busy with holiday festivities! We are gearing up this week to head to Pasadena for the Rose Parade. Were going out there on Friday and spending the night out there to watch the parade in the morning. I used to do it when I was a kid all the time and decided it was time to do it again! We are crazy excited to go out and hang out. It should be a blast, it always was when I was a kid!

I will have my camera all night and day, there should be a MAJOR blog post after the rose parade at some point, most likely after a day of recuperating from staying up all night and freezing our asses off. I will be tweeting the whole night though if your interested in our going ons while there.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Thanks for reading for almost a year now, I will keep on posting if you keep on reading!

I decided that enough was enough and I had to come up with something to make a decent snake photo. I ended up using an empty shelf and mounted the lights on it. It works pretty nicely for what I need to do. Until I can buy my own it will have to do! This is my Male Pastel Poss Het Clown that I purchased from Heather at Heather's Herps.

  • 365 Project - Something to keep me motivated!

My photography has be lacking a bit lately, I just haven't been really motivated to go out and shoot random things. I am getting much more interested in shooting people and it is taking away my focus of loving photography. Not that I don't love taking photos, I just have been focusing on building my career as a photographer and not just taking photos for me. I heard about this 365 project, it is a really cool concept and I can't wait to get going with it and see what it becomes. The idea is that I take a photo every day for 365 days and put them up on flickr. The photos can be of anything I want, I just have to post them one a day. I am hoping that I stick with it and get some cool photos. It will be nice to see how my photos look at the end of the year. I will try to post some of them here if not all of them but if I fail to do so you can see them on my flickr at www.flickr.com/kesslerskreatures

This is my first photo, I decided to take a photo of the snakes and my business card because it shows my photography hobby and my snake hobby.

  • Holday Week and a Mock E-Session

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching! I love this time of year, nothing beats spending time with family, friends and eating great food! Were going to be spending a majority of this week with Jasmin's family, It has been a while since we have hung out with her Grandma and the rest of her family. Were out in Phelan right now actually, I am blogging from the kitchen table staring out at the pitch black night. I love it out here, we go outside late at night and we can see the stars so well. It is absolutely breathtaking how beautiful the sky is at night when you don't have the city lights ruining it. I am actually going to try and take some long exposure shots of the sky and see what I can come up with, maybe even get some shooting stars. I have see quite a few while out here. After Thanksgiving on Thursday we are going to head back down to home. Were going to stop at Heather's and hit up that black Friday sales with her! It should be a crazy morning, I have never been shopping on black Friday! Once we get all the shopping our of our system we are going to head home to Long Beach to spend the day with my family. We are going to do the day after Thanksgiving feast. I can't wait, it is going to be a good time all week. Then the weekend will be just as fun but I will get into that later on!

This past week I mentioned a mock E-Session I was going to do with Heather and Joel. I was supposed to post some photos from the shoot but I never got around to it because we left for Phelan earlier than we had planned. I don't have all the photos from the shoot with me right now because I transferred them to my external hard drive before we left. I didn't think we were going to have the internet up here so I did not prepare photos for bloggity blog.  I do however have a couple pics that I had already watermarked and are ready for posting! I hope you enjoy! Thanks again Heather and Joel for letting me continuously shoot you!
